Our cause
SustainableWWW (World-wide-web) is a small organization actively promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly internet. We spread knowledge through articles which we use to teach sustainable methods and talk about new trends and techniques.
The internet is today responsible for around 4-5% of the total carbon dioxide emissions around the world, and if it was a country it would be the 6th biggest polluter in the world. It is expected that by 2025 the emissions will have grown so much that only the U.S, China and India will pollute more. But by reducing the carbon footprint created by the billions of websites we can lower the numbers and create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly internet. At the same time as we lower the emissions caused by the internet we also make websites more accessible to people living in areas with low bandwidth.
Get startedAt this very moment the internet is causing so much pollution that if it was a country it would be the 6th biggest polluter in the world. It is predicted that in 2025 the internet will emit more carbon dioxide than any country except the U.S, China and India.
More than 250,000 additional deaths per year is what climate change is expected to cause between year 2030 and 2050.
Renewable energy only made up 28% of global electricity used in 2020.
Sustainability and environmentalism is not the same, but environmentalism is a part of the sustainable category of web design.
Everything you do online is in fact polluting. For example causes a spam email about 0.3g CO2, a regular email about 4.0g CO2 and an email with a photo causes around 50g CO2.
